Services

Telemedicine and Telehealth encompass a broad variety of medical and health services:

  • Patient consultations such as using audio, video and medical data between a patient and a primary care or specialty physician for use in rendering a diagnosis and treatment plan. This might originate from a remote clinic to a physician's office using a direct transmission link or may include communicating to a physician over the Web.
  • Consumer medical and health information includes the use of the Internet for consumers to obtain specialized health information and on-line discussion groups to provide peer-to-peer support.
  • Medical education provides continuing medical education credits for health professionals and special medical education seminars for targeted groups in remote global locations.
  • Specialist referral services typically involves of a specialist assisting a general practitioner in rendering a diagnosis. This may involve a patient "seeing" a specialist over a live, remote consult or the transmission of diagnostic images and/or video along with patient data to a specialist for viewing later. Recent surveys have shown a rapid increase in the number of specialty and subspecialty areas that have successfully used telemedicine. Radiology continues to make the greatest use of telemedicine with thousands of images "read" by remote providers each year. Other major specialty areas include: dermatology, ophthalmology, mental health, cardiology and pathology. According to reports and studies, almost 50 different medical subspecialties have successfully used telemedicine.
  • Remote patient monitoring uses devices to remotely collect and send data to a monitoring station for interpretation. Such "home telehealth" applications might include a specific vital sign, such as blood glucose or heart ECG or a variety of indicators for homebound patients. Such services can be used to supplement the use of visiting nurses.

Videoconference Technology

Videoconference technology has become an integral communication tool a Cardiophonics over the years and is used on a daily basis to conduct educational, expert medical testimony, clinical and administrative meetings. A network of more than 1300 videoconference locations is maintained with various providers and partners. Each year, over 300 videoconferences occur, bringing together Cardiophonics-affiliated, domestic and international locations.

Cardiophonics Telemedicine has deployed multipoint technology to connect up to 6 videoconference sites simultaneously at a transmission speed of 384kbps, bridging together sites within our network and beyond. This bridging technology allows varying H.323 (IP) and H.320 (ISDN) protocols to participate in the same video call at various line speeds if necessary.

Videoconferencing allows face-to-face real time communication between participants at numerous locations, with the ability to show various presentation modalities such as PowerPoint, 35 mm slides, and overheads.

We are now expanding our network to include teaching activities which supplement in house staffing shortages of medical personnel. Teaching applications of various technologies can be accomplished by licensed personnel from our site in Baltimore , Maryland directly into your office or facility.

Staffed by RNs, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers and various technical personnel the center can provide educational, teaching and consultation activities directly to patients or other medical personnel in real time. Activities can be automatically videotaped and made into formats that conform to HIPPA regulations and added to various electronic medical records or personnel documentation.
